My story.
I discovered my calling late in life. A middle peacemaking child growing up in a dysfunctional family, I learned my past gave me an advantage as a skilled helper. My younger self, crusader for all things concrete, believed my hard work and heartfelt faith would mean soaring success and predictable payoffs should I keep to my plan.
With disappointments and bends in the road, as well as listening to similar stories from clients, my seasoned current self understands more and more quite the opposite is true. Life is chaos, a crashing river, falling rapids, intermittent spaces of restful calm, yet ever moving along its way. The best we can hope is to trust God’s complete control over our future and hold on for the ride.
Today, my mantra is clear. Live in this moment and release past hurts knowing it weighs us down, so that we can move into our future unencumbered. Be grateful each day, especially for the small things that come your way. Lastly, be intentional to do our little bit to come alongside others lost and alone. After all, we are all in this together. Come along with me and let’s see what we can see.
